Coal Oil Point Reserve Tour Program

S & W's Program Committee initiated a Coal Oil Point Reserve Tour Program in 2005. However, recent funding from Venoco Inc. has allowed S & W to expand the program by training volunteer tour leaders, and to create tours catered to a variety of interest groups such as bird watchers, cultural enthusiasts and tidepool lovers.

Enjoy a tour of Coal Oil Point Reserve, a nature preserve owned by UCSB. Trained tour leaders will take you on a walk through a few of the Reserve's ecosystems: from sandy beach to the Devereux Slough to a restored coastal dune system. Learn about the Reserve's current restoration projects and its cultural and geologic history while identifying flora and fauna-such as American Kestral, Coast Golden Bush, and the Glouse Dune Beetle-that make their home at Coal Oil Point.

Tours occur monthly on:
The third Sunday from 2pm to 4:15pm
OR
Tours for groups over five people are available by appointment. All tours are open to the public. $5 donation to Coal Oil Point Reserve requested. Registration for tours is required and closes 24 hours before the tour start time. Tours are capped at 15 people, so early registration is suggested.

Contact Leeza Charleboix at (805) 893-5092 to register. To see the dates for tours this month, see our Upcoming Events.
